Cryptic Seconds
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 October 2026
This policy explains what information the Cryptic Seconds Discord bot ("the bot") collects, why, and what you can do about it. Cryptic Seconds is a project of Serindor ("we", "us"), run from the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the information described here.
What we collect
We only collect what the game needs to work:
- Your Discord user ID and username, so we can track your progress and show you on leaderboards.
- Game data: your guesses, whether and when you solved each daily clue, your scores and your streaks.
- Server information: the server (guild) ID, and the channel a server admin chooses for daily puzzle posts, plus any settings they configure.
- Basic technical logs: which commands were used and when, and any errors, so we can fix problems.
We do not read or store the content of your messages, and we do not collect your email address, passwords, payment details, IP address or location.
Why we use it
- To run the game: posting daily clues, checking answers, keeping scores, streaks and leaderboards.
- To keep the bot working, secure and fair, including spotting cheating or abuse.
- To understand, in general terms, how the bot is used so we can improve it.
Under UK data protection law, our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running and improving the game you have chosen to play. If we offer paid features in future, information needed to provide them will be processed to perform our agreement with you.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers. Your information is only handled by:
- Discord, because the bot runs on their platform. Discord's own Privacy Policy applies to your use of Discord.
- Our hosting provider, which stores the bot's database and runs its code on our behalf.
- Other players: your username, scores and streaks may appear on leaderboards visible to members of servers where the bot is used.
- Authorities, only if we are legally required to.
Our hosting provider may store data outside the UK. Where it does, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under UK law.
How long we keep it
We keep your game data for as long as you play, so your streaks and history are preserved. If you ask us to delete your data, we will do so within 30 days. If a server removes the bot, that server's settings may be deleted; players' individual scores may remain unless deletion is requested. Technical logs are kept only for as long as needed to fix problems.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct it;
- ask us to delete it;
- object to or ask us to restrict how we use it.
To use any of these rights, email [email protected] with your Discord username and user ID. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Children
Discord requires users to be at least 13 years old (or older where local law requires). The bot is intended only for people who meet Discord's age requirements, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the data we hold, including keeping access limited and credentials private. No online service can be perfectly secure, but we will tell affected users and the ICO where required if a serious breach occurs.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, announce it through the bot or its support server.
